Down the line to Kingswear
The line to Kingswear was opened in June 1864, and Down the line to Kingswear explores the development of this line from Aller Junction to Kingswear, but in particular, the 7 mile section from Paignton to Kingswear, which was closed by BR in 1972, and its consequent take-over by the Paignton & Dartmouth Railway. Relax as we locomotive types that were used on the line in Great Western and BR days, such as Kings and Manors, together with GWR Prairie and heavy freight 2-8-0 tanks, together with diesel-hydraulics in the shape of D1015 Western Champion. This programme examines the locomotives that are used on the line by the Paignton & Dartmouth, together with the summer dated Torbay Express workings. Listen in awe, as Britain's premier express locomotives, such as Kings, Battle of Britains and A4s, grapple with the railway's severe 1 in 60 gradients, as they head to the Royal Naval town of Dartmouth. See unique footage as during one of these workings, headed by LNER A4 Pacific 60009 Union of South Africa, stalls on Goodrington Bank, and is rescued by Lydham Manor, providing the first ever combination of an A4 and GWR 'Manor' double-heading! This is a DVD that has established itself as one of the definitive programmes on the line, and will ultimately be one that you will treasure for years to come! RUNNING TIME: 95 mins. PRICE: £19-99 + £3 p&p.
