Tornado in the West
Tornado in the West is a tribute DVD to the legendary new build A1 Peppercorn Pacific 60163 Tornado, and this programme documents her activities in the West Country during June, July and August 2009. This programme begins with an in-depth investigation of Tornado's two week stay on the West Somerset Railway, as the A1 steams majestically through the Quantock Hills, before we examine her use on the Summer dated 'Torbay Express' workings to Kingswear, as she tackles the severe and twisting 1 in 60 gradient of Goodrington Bank on the Paignton & Dartmouth Railway. We conclude with perhaps Tornado's toughest challenge yet, as 60163 becomes the first A1 to work to Plymouth, as she takes the Tamar Tornado charter over the fearsome Dainton and Hemerdon Banks, with gradients as severe as 1 in 42! So, if you are fascinated by the Tornado phenomenon, and wanting a lasting memorial of Tornado's ground-breaking visit to the West Country, then this is the DVD for you! RUNNING TIME: 65 mins. PRICE: £19-99 + £3 p&p.
LNER Memories
LNER Memories is a tribute DVD that examines the fascinating diversity of locomotives that were developed by Gresley, Thompson and Peppercorn for the LNER. The programme begins with a review of the LNER themed gala at Barrow Hill, where, for the first occasion since 1966, two A4s and an A2 line up together. In scenes that were so reminiscent of Kings Cross 'Top Shed,' we see 60532 Blue Peter (newly repainted into BR apple green) line-up with A4 Pacifics 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and 60009 Union of South Africa. Also reviewed is K4 'mogul' 61994 The Great Marquess, and her return to traffic in 2008, and the use of K1 62005 on the 'Jacobite' workings to Mallaig. We also investigate the final weeks in traffic of unique V2 2-6-2 4771 Green Arrow on both the Churnet Valley and North Yorkshire Moors Railways. This is surely a programme that is destined to become a classic, and something that all LNER enthusiasts will savour for years to come! RUNNING TIME: 71 MINS. PRICE £19-99 + £3 P&P.
